Peregrine Falcon chick

Picture
This 4 week old falcon fell off her nest ledge under the Rt 95 bridge in Pawtucket, RI. She would have drowned if not for the efforts of some nearby fishermen. They were able to reach her with a net and bring her to shore. She was brought to Born To Be Wild Nature Center for safe keeping until she could be returned to her parents. Working with both State and Federal Fish & Wildlife Officers, we were able to band the chick so that she could be identified at a later time. The bands provide her age, sex and place of birth. Help was needed to get the young falcon back up under the bridge. The Dept. Of Transportation provided a bucket truck to safely reach the height of the nest. Falcons don't really build nests but prefer to use ledges to raise their young. The young falcon, now known as G8, was carefully placed back under the bridge and several days later was seen flying with another young falcon, presumably her sibling. They were then spotted being fed by an adult Peregrine Falcon on the top of City Hall! Happy ending for all!
